EATING TO LIVE VS. LIVING TO EAT!

Normally, people start OGMBB at the beginning of the new year after partaking in all the holiday thrills and frills that comes naturally with the season of giving. But one thing I’m noticing this year is that many have started to realize that playing “catch up” when it comes to reaching weight goals and decreasing body fat is not a fair play. Let’s face it, you work hard all year long only to reach year-end and re-pack all the weight dropped, plus more. Then, all the commercials with fad diets and exercise equipment begin to advertise more aggressively and frequently; promising how their product can deliver the slimmer waist and fit body you’ve always dreamed of. And here is where it all starts…
You begin the cycle of emotional eating AND emotional fitness (not intended for long term goals – Only to see immediate results) to dictate how you care for your body! Guess what? I’m guilty as charged! I’ll raise my hand first to admit that I too must check myself in this area. Eating has become a regular escape from the everyday hustle and bustle, the depression that’s been lingering, the bills that are piling up, etc. We have used emotional eating as a tool to help us cope with stressful situations, rather than handling the sources of our stress head on.
I know I’ve also been guilty of senseless snacking. This happens when I pass a gas station or convenience store that may carry my favorite brands of hot chips or hard candy. I stop and grab these items not because I have an urge, but more so out of habit and not thinking. I reason with myself, “And while I’m on this side of town, why not go ahead and grab one since you don’t know when you’ll be back?” Yep, and just like that, I have allowed my mind to justify why I should purchase and indulge in that favorite junk food. Just senseless snacking!
So, at this point, you’re probably wondering how do we kick the habit? You know, living to eat instead of eating to live. It’s quite simple, but we must train our minds to know it’s simple and can be done because our body will be more grateful in the long run.
Drink more Water
Read ALL labels
Eat fresher foods
Appreciate your body
Meal Prep more often
If we just learned the importance of appreciating our bodies alone, we can change our mindsets about food and what we choose to eat. The other elements of DREAM would be easier because you realize that once you start to heal your body from the inside out, changes will take place and you’ll experience higher levels of energy. Stopping to get that cheeseburger with extra bacon and cheese with large fries won’t be as tempting once you see the benefits of having a clean eating lifestyle. Now I’m not saying you won’t ever crave bad foods or that you will never eat them again. But what I am saying is that you will THINK and PLAN the next time you indulge because you’re not eating out of emotions. You’re eating from a place of power and love for your life!
You should not wait until you become your ideal size to appreciate your body! Make the choice NOW to take better care of yourself and to feed it the proper nutrition. Remember, DREAM is how we will get to that destination of better health and fitness. It will be the bridge to help us get to the other side! Over time, we will become better at eating to live because of the benefits and not living to eat because of emotions.
